Bobby Lashley, Phil Baroni, Aaron Rosa Win at Titan Fighting

by Michael David SmithFormer pro wrestling star Bobby Lashley stepped back into the mixed martial arts cage Friday night for the Titan Fighting promotion, and the good news is he won.

The bad news is that he showed that he's still the one-dimensional fighter with absolutely no cardiovascular endurance that he's always been.

"It was not as good as I wanted," Lashley said afterward. "But it was a victory."

Hale Wins by Inverted Triangle, Bellator Light Heavyweights Advance

by Michael David Smith

In 2009, Toby Imada put Bellator Fighting Championships on the map by defeating Jorge Masvidal with an incredible inverted triangle choke submission, a highlight that became a viral video and was widely regarded as the best submission of the year in mixed martial arts.

Now lightning has struck twice for Bellator.

On Saturday night's Bellator card, Richard Hale used the same move -- the inverted triangle -- to choke Nik Fekete into unconsciousness. It was a sensational highlight, and exactly the kind of thing Bellator needs to attract attention on its new television home, MTV2.

The Truth About Fighting Your Friends

Filed under:

If UFC president Dana White has said it once, he's said it a thousand times: MMA is not a team sport.

It's a sport that's all about individual success and failure. It's about two men locked in a violent struggle for money and status, and there's not enough of either to go around.

This, of course, is the inexorable logic of the fight promoter, who stands to profit handsomely if he can convince friends, teammates, and training partners to forego all other loyalties and duke it out in the cage. But then, the promoter doesn't have to actually get in there and knock his best friend unconscious.

As UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub put it, "This isn't basketball. It's not like Magic [Johnson] and [Larry] Bird playing each other and being all buddy-buddy. Somebody's getting fu**ed up."

Hours before the biggest fight of his life, Jones subdues a robber

Eat your heart out Bob Reilly. Mixed martial arts is a lot more than a money grab viewed by savage fans; it can be a real life saver. Saturday afternoon in the streets of Paterson, N.J., Jon Jones and his trainers applied their gym techniques when they spotted a robber, chased him down and subdued him.

Thanks to Tracy Lee for the tip, photo link and video below

Jones, who was scheduled tofight Saturday evening in Newark for the UFC light heavyweight title, was on his way to meditate in front of a waterfall in Northern New Jersey. Jones, along with Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, spotted the suspect breaking into a car and stealing some objects. According to the account given to Yahoo!'s Kevin Iole by Jackson, the group shouted at the robber and he took off.

Jones, Jackson and Winkeljohn pursued him on foot. The robber eventually fell and Jones, the youngest of the group at 23, caught up to the robber and tripped him to the ground again. Jackson said that Jones "foot swept" the suspect.

With the robber on the ground, Jackson began yelling to his fighter to stay away. Once the trainers caught up to robber, he tried to get up. Jackson said he "double-legged" him and jumped on top applying an arm bar. Winkeljohn went for the other arm to make sure he didn't have a weapon. In the scuffle, the robber was bloodied. The trainers said some blood got on their pants. Shortly afterward, the police arrived to arrest the suspect.

Less than an hour after the incident, Tracy Lee spoke with Jackson.

This is the second time in the last month an MMA-related move was used in a high-profile story to subdue a criminal. Joe Lozito, New York-area laborer, tackled an alleged murderer on a New York subway.

Reilly is the New York assemblyman leading the crusade to keep MMA events out of New York State. The ban by New York is a big reason why the UFC has placed several events just a few miles away across the Hudson River in Newark's Prudential Center. Jones faced Mauricio Rua -- and beat him with a third-round TKO -- in the main event of UFC 128, stepping into theOctagon roughly 7 1/2 hours after his run-in with the robber.

Jackson mentioned that Jones eventually reached that Paterson-area waterfall.

"It was an incredibly beautiful waterfall," said Jackson.

Trash talk is gone for humbled Hardy

Dan Hardy's a savvy guy. Heading into each one his fights, the British bomber usually provides us with some awesome promotional fodder. Not this time. Coming off a rough knockout loss against Carlos Condit and facing a guy he actually respects, Hardy refused to unleash his customary verbal warfare.

"I guess you could say I was humbled. I was more angered than humbled, though. I got annoyed at myself, I was like you wasted an opportunity there, you let a guy take it away from you and you never deserved it. And that was the talking I got for myself," Hardy said on the Ultimate Fight Night 24 conference call.

Hardy, a 28-year-old Brit who splits his training time between the U.K. and U.S., is slated to faced Anthony Johnson at Ultimate Fight Night 24 (Spike 10 p.m. ET/PT) in Seattle on Saturday.

Hardy (23-8, 4-2 UFC) fell victim to a nasty left hook from Carlos Condit, dropping his second straight fight in just 4:27. The mohawked-Brit was too relaxed heading into that fight at UFC 120.

"I was just little overly confident. That's all it was. I was, you know ? I let the moment get to me and let myself confidence get to me up. I didn't have any respect for the guy. I just kind of let myself open, not thinking that I'd pay the price," Hardy said. "That was all what it was really. It was a silly mistake and it was regrettable, but, you know, I wouldn't take it back because, you know, it's got me where I'm at right now. And I'm in a much better place now than I was then."

With two straight losses and one of the deepest divisions in all of MMA at 170 pounds, Hardy knows the heat is on.

"I've kind of put myself in a situation and mindset where I'm fighting for my job and, you know, that's the worst place that I could possibly be in for my opponent because they're going to get everything that I've got a little bit more," said Hardy.

Aside from not wanting to look like an out-of-touch blowhard coming off an bad knockout loss, Hardy didn't think Johnson was the right guy to try and rattle with a barrage of prefight trash talk.

"You know, one, myself and Anthony are friendly and we've always gotten along well. So there was no point in fabricating something because, you know, the fans just see through that kind of thing. So it was just, you know, I don't want to waste my energy doing that," Hardy said. "And the second thing is, you know, Anthony never bites to that kind of stuff. He's a pretty chilled guy. So, you know, I've just invested the energy into the training camp instead and, you know, I'll just do my talking on Saturday night."

Johnson (8-3, 5-3 UFC) is the perfect opponent for Hardy. He loves to stand and bang. The 26-year-old from Georgia is not a great wrestler and rarely looks for the takedown.

He's also coming off a 16-month layoff where he battled a ton of injuries. Johnson injured his knee three years ago and said he tried to fight through it, but kept doing more damage. He finally had it operated on last April. Johnson admits that he gained a ton of weight during the down time. He's been back in the gym since the summer, but how likely is it Johnson is at his best? This is a must-win fight for Hardy.

HDNet Offers an Honest Assessment of Bobby Lashley

by Michael David Smith

The worst thing a TV announcer can do is lie to the audience. That's true in any sport, but mixed martial arts has a particularly egregious history of announcers hyping up fighters at the expense of the truth: When a promoter wants to make one fighter or another into its next star, there are far too many announcers willing to overstate the fighter's abilities and mislead the viewers into thinking they're watching a better fighter than they are.

So it was refreshing on Friday night to hear the HDNet announcing team of Michael Schiavello and Frank Trigg tell the audience the truth about Bobby Lashley, who was fighting in the main event of a Titan Fighting card: Although the easy thing to do would have been to hype up Lashley as Titan Fighting's biggest star, Schiavello and Trigg instead offered a frank assessment of Lashley and told the audience the truth about who he is: A big, muscular former wrestler whose physique looks impressive but whose MMA skills are limited and whose cardiovascular conditioning is atrocious.

Anderson Silva 'Very Happy' at 185, Thinks Jon Jones Is 'Amazing'

by Michael David Smith

It didn't take long after Jon Jones won the UFC light heavyweight championship for everyone in the MMA world -- right up to UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta -- to start clamoring for a superfight between Jones and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

ULTMMA.com asked Silva what he thinks, and the UFC's oldest champion said he's in awe of the UFC's youngest champion. But he didn't sound all that interested in moving up to light heavyweight.

Phil Davis Beats Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24

by Michael David SmithIn a battle of youth and athleticism against experience and technique, the youngster Phil Davis defeated the legendary Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 24.

But it wasn't easy.

Although Davis came into the fight as a heavy favorite and had been proclaimed by some as the man who would some day beat UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Nogueira made life difficult for Davis in the early going, and the fight turned into a 15-minute, back-and-forth battle that was closer than the judges' scorecards -- all of which gave Davis the fight 30-27 -- would suggest.

‘Mr. Wonderful’ vlogs: Phil Davis is NOT Jon Jones

Phil Davis has a chance to explode into the mainstream tomorrow night at Ultimate Fight Night 24 (Spike 10 p.m. ET/PT).

In the days leading up to his fight against veteran Antonio "Rogerio" Nogueira., the "Mr. Wonderful" crew put together a series of vlogs to track his every move.

Because he's African-American with a decorated amateur wrestling background, he's often compared to Jon Jones. Davis and his boys have a running joke about being asked Jones questions in every interview (7:05 mark above)

In vlog 2 (below), Brandon Vera touches on the obvious when it comes to the Jones comparisons. Vera jokes about Davis being a great athlete (7:45 mark). He also says, he loves "Lil' Nog," but the PRIDE veteran could be in trouble versus Davis.

"His biggest strength is his wrestling and his wrist control. There's no way to prepare for it," Vera said (8:30 mark). [...] For sure, I think Phil's gonna win. I feel bad for saying that. I feel bad for Lil' Nog. I love you Lil' Nog, but I just don't think that you're gonna beat Phil Davis. Davis is on fire right now. He's on right now, he's rough."

Davis' training home in San Diego, Alliance Train Center, is closely tied to Nogueira's home, Blackhouse MMA.

[...] "At first when I heard about [Davis facing Nogueira] I was kind of sad because we're all training partners and we're friends. But it's business, trying to make that check. Trying to make that extra money. MMA is a sport. This is our job. This is what we do. People gotta eat, we're in a recession," said Vera.

Check out vlog four where Davis talks about training with former opponent Alexander Gustafsson. The vlog crew also captured scenes from Davis' appearance on Seattle's NBC television affiliate KING-5. Reporter Christie Johnson (@cjohnsonking5) does a nice job mounting Davis and slapping on an armbar (5:05 mark).

Big smile, cool nickname not enough for ‘Bruce Leroy’; Semerzier cruises at UFN 24

The cute stuff may work on reality television, but Alex "Bruce Leroy" Cacares was badly outclassed by WEC veteran Mackens Semerzier. In what was probably a must-win situation, Semerzier steamrolled Bruce Leroy winning via rear-naked choke in just 3:18 at Ultimate Fight Night 24.

Semerzier (6-3, 1-0 UFC) scored three powerful takedowns. He got the first just 57 seconds into the fight. Cacares got up with 3:30 left in the first and hit the deck again with 3:18 left. The final time he went down with 2:40 left, started the beginning of the end.

Semerzier fell right into the mount position and starting pounding away. Bruce Leroy turned away from the strikes and gave his back. Semerzier flattened him and even when Cacares threatened to slip out the backdoor, the Marine was able to get him back down and finally apply the finishing choke.

Cacares, who came up with the "Bruce Leroy" moniker himself, was a villain of sorts during Season 12 of TUF. He ruffled the feathers of eventual finalist Michael Johnson and several other fights from the show.

Tonight, he walked to the cage with Taimak, the original "Bruce Leroy" from the 1985 movie "The Last Dragon."

Hathaway bests McCray at his own game

Kris McCray is a one-trick pony and tonight in Seattle he got schooled at his strength. John Hathaway outwrestled McCray, taking him down repeatedly throughout the fight. The young Brit got a split decision victory, 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28.

McCray never came close to threatening a finish. Hathaway did in the opening round with a nasty toe hold. The 23-year-old from Brighton, England worked and twisted McCray's foot for 45 seconds. McCray held out and fought on.

"I was real close. I heard a couple pops and creaks," said Hathaway.

With better cardio, Hathaway (15-1, 5-1 UFC) sealed the fight in the third. He simply did more, staying active when he had top control. It wasn't the most spectacular victory, but proved Hathaway, without much of a wrestling background, can grapple on a high level.

After posting a huge win over Diego Sanchez at UFC 114, Hathaway was upset by Mike Pyle back in October at UFC 120. Including the "TUF 11 Finale," McCray has now lost all three fights in his time with the UFC.

Busted up eye causes Madsen to lose his first to Russow

Mike Russow isn't the prettiest fighter, but the guy finds ways to win. The Chicago cop won another fight, this time by ending the unbeaten run of Jon Madsen. On the advice of the doctor, the referee stopped the fight before the beginning of the third round because Madsen's left eye was nearly closed. Russow (14-1, 3-0 UFC) got the victory via TKO.

That makes 2-of-3 fights with the promotion that he's won via KO or TKO. In his previous 11 wins, he scored nine of them by submission.

Russow said he caught Madsen (7-1, 3-1 UFC) with an overhand right in the second and that's what made the eye blow up.

The mental side of UFC 128: Jones is over the mystique of Rua

Jon Jones may be a physical freak, but he's just like most fighters who have to wrestle with the mental side of the game before and during the fight.

The 6-foot-4, 220 pounder has a huge task in front of him in facing MMA legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The former PRIDE middleweight and current UFC light heavyweight champ has been in there with some of the top fighters of all time. Jones' top opponents include former Ultimate Fighter contestants Matt Hamill and Ryan Bader.

A quick look at the credentials of both fighters could be pretty intimidating. That's where's Jones' trainer Greg Jackson comes in.

"I was actually getting a little anxiety about being in the title fight," Jones told The Daily. "He said 'Jon listen it's just another fight. "No fight is a big fight. Forget what his name is.'That's the mindset I have now. He really humanized Shogun big time, because I've been a fan of him myself."

You can watch UFC 128 right here on Yahoo!

Jackson said the most important thing is Jones willingness to listen.

"Jon is a student of the game," Jackson said. "Inspiration is a fighter's most precious commodity. For Jon, knowledge and enlightenment seems to be what inspires him, so I'm always quoting strategy books or Eastern philosophy as how it relates to combat."

Jackson is known around the sport as a guru of the MMA mind game. When Jones arrived at his camp in Albuqueque he was a hot shot prospect who wowed with his explosiveness. Jackson has slowly re-programmed Jones' approach in the cage.

"He's getting very good at finishing fights now," said Jackson. "Before he would throw you over the head or do a spinning elbow and he'd be in wars with these guys. Now it's pretty much domination because he's coming into his own natural style."

This is a nice piece from The Daily. One of the most interesting quotes from the video didn't make the story. We've heard a lot about Rashad Evans, a Jones teammate at Jackson's being perturbed with "Bones" for taking the title shot.

Jones tells story (0:40 mark) that Evans was actually the guy who told him to have a big night at UFC 126 and seize the opportunity if it comes. He said Rashad "basically" gave him his blessing. We're guessing this was taped well before some of the verbal drama that has gone down before the last few weeks.

Jones to appear on the ‘Tonight Show’ on Thursday night

Jon Jones' latest stop on the victory tour is a trip out to Los Angeles and Jay Leno's "Tonight Show." He will appear on the famous late night show on Thursday evening at 11:35 ET/PT to talk about winning the UFC light heavyweight belt. The split in his training camp with former friend and training partner Rashad Evans will likely be discussed.

Jones is far from the first fighter to make it onto Leno's stage. Tito Ortiz, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Chuck Liddell have all appeared on the Leno show. But even putting Jones in that company is impressive. All three men have multiple title defenses, movie roles and magazine covers. Now, Jones will join them down that road of stardom that transcends MMA.

Faber escapes against surprising Wineland at UFC 128

Eddie Wineland was supposed to be a nice showcase opportunity for Urijah Faber in his UFC debut. Instead, the 26-year-old made Faber work all 15 minutes. The former WEC featherweight champion, scored several takedowns in the final two rounds and was faster with his hands on the way to a unanimous decision victory, 29-28 on all three scorecards, at UFC 128 in Newark, N.J.

After the fight, Faber (25-4, 1-0 UFC) sent a message to UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz to get ready. Faber doesn't talk much trash but he's been very critical of Cruz, who he feels is way too cocky. They squared off in 2007 at 145 pounds. Faber scored a submission win with a guillotine choke at WEC 30.

Wineland (18-7, 0-1 UFC) was a lot tougher than most expected. He's big for the weight class and more than matched Faber in the clinch.

Faber's an excellent grappler with nasty takedowns, but he couldn't get Wineland off his feet in the opening round. Wineland used the clinch to avoid the whizzer attempts by Faber.

Faber began opening up on the feet in the second. There was a clear speed advantage. Holding his hands low, Faber was able to pick his spots. Wineland really offered very little back.

Barnett needs to take care of business before Ratner and UFC let him fight in June

One of the major unresolved issues from the UFC purchase of Strikeforce is the status of Josh Barnett in the heavyweight Grand Prix. The rumor flying around UFC 128 was that Shane Carwin would be inserted into the tourney and Barnett would be removed.

Barnett presents a headache to both Strikeforce and its new parent company Zuffa because he's still not officially licensed to fight in the U.S. Barnett refuses to cooperate with California, the state that originally handed down the suspension because of a positive test back in July of 2009. He served a year penalty, but still hasn't shown his face before the California commission. The hearing has been delayed four times and Barnett no-showed a hearing on Feb. 22.

Yahoo!'s lead MMA writer Kevin Iole joined ESPN1100 in Las Vegas to tell us how the UFC is likely to handle Barnett's licensing situation. Iole suggested that Barnett is going to run into trouble with Marc Ratner and UFC brass if he doesn't go through the proper to steps to get re-licensed.

Jay Leno Introduces Jon Jones as Champion, Hero

by Michael David Smith

The UFC got about the best PR it could have possibly dreamed of on Thursday night's Tonight Show, as Jay Leno introduced Jon Jones as both a champion and a hero for stopping a robbery prior to winning his title fight at UFC 128.

Most of Jones' appearance on the Tonight Show focused on that incident on Saturday afternoon, as Jones explained how he heard an elderly woman scream that she had been robbed and then chased down and tackled the robber. Leno gave Jones plenty of time to tell the story and then gushed over his heroic actions.

Marquardt looks forward to ‘punching Bisping in the mouth’

There isn't a more thoughtful, docile guy in MMA than Nate Marquardt, but when it comes to Michael Bisping, he sounds like just about every other UFC middleweight.

Marquardt, who's been on the verge of a title shot for the last three years, wants a piece of the Brit.

"I would love to fight that guy, just to punch him in his mouth and shut him up. He's an ass," Marquardt told Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole. "He's a total punk, no respect. I don't like those kinds of people."

The spitting incident at UFC 127 pushed Marquardt over the edge.

"The crap-talking, whatever, that's one thing. Guys do things to hype up fights. And even guys who are just like that naturally, I don't hold that against them. But the fact that he goes and spits on an opponent's corner, that's so disrespectful," Marquardt said. "That's just not what a martial artist does and it's not what a sportsman does."

This kind of talk is completely out of character for Marquardt.

"I'd say 90, 95 percent of the time I like my opponents," Marquardt said. "I've always thought he was kind of an ass. He says disrespectful stuff, but the spitting is just a step farther, or two steps too far. It was horrible."

He still doesn't understand what sent Bisping into such a rage.

"It's one thing, the pre-fight stuff. Those are just words. They're not threats, they're not crossing the line. Making fun of his accent is something I would do to my buddy. It's not that big of a deal. Going around spitting on someone, I don't know," said Marquardt.

Marquardt has to take care of business first on Saturday against Dan Miller at UFC 128. Miller is filling in for Yoshihiro Akiyama.

Bisping's status is in limbo right now. The UFC plans on disciplining the Brit, but no official word has come down on whether that means he's kept away from the Octagon for any significant length of time.

MMA Top 10 Bantamweights: Cruz, Faber on a Collision Course

by Michael David SmithThe two best 135-pound fighters in the world will square off some time later this year for the first ever UFC bantamweight title match in what should be a great showcase for what has quietly become one of the UFC's most talented weight classes.

Before the UFC absorbed World Extreme Cagefighting, the smaller guys were largely overlooked by casual MMA fans. But now that the UFC has added the WEC's bantamweights -- and also snapped up some 135-pounders from other promotions -- the bantamweight class is stacked. In fact, as I put together my latest ranking of the Top 10 bantamweights in mixed martial arts, all 10 of them are now under contract to the UFC.

The top two, as you probably suspect, are bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and the only man to defeat him, Urijah Faber. Those two will square off at UFC 132. But the rest of the bantamweight division includes several talented fighters who could become worthy challengers to the bantamweight title in the years ahead.

Bas says Jones will takedown ‘Shogun’ easily

Bas Rutten's reaction to Jon Jones' title shot was similar to many around the sport, "is it too soon?" The former UFC heavyweight champ and analyst for HDNet came around quickly on the style of the fight favoring Jones.

Rutten has already seen Jones toss around solid wrestlers with ease, so how is Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, going to stay off the deck?

Jones challenges Rua for his 205-pound title on Saturday in Newark, N.J. The UFC champ has devastating kicks, but Rutten doesn't think it'll be enough to slow down the 23-year-old freight train.

Rua turned pro in 2003 and has 23 fights under his belt. Jones has only been a pro since 2008, yet he opened as a minus-170 favorite over the champ. The public is firing on Jones, he's up to minus-200 off shore.

Barboza slips by Njokuani in excellent display of kickboxing at UFC 128

Edson Barboza continued to impress in the UFC with his nasty kicks at UFC 128. The Brazilian took a unanimous decision, 29-28 on all three cards, in the Spike opener in Newark, N.J.

Update: FightMetric had Njokuani outlanding Barboza 72-46. He threw more as well attempting 188 to 151. Njokuani outpaced Barboza in the final two rounds 54-31 in strikes landed.

Barboza (8-0 , 2-0 UFC) opened the fight with a bang when he crushed Njokuani with a pair of right hands. Both landed cleanly on the temple as Njokuani went to the ground just 50 seconds in. He recovered, but didn't look to throw very much again until about a minute left in the round.

Njokuani (13-5, 0-1 UFC) made some nice adjustments in the second and let his offense work as his defense against Barboza's nasty muay thai. The Nigerian-born resident of Las Vegas switched his stances throughout and kept Barboza at bay with an array of leg, body and front kicks.

The final round was tight. Barboza landed some heavy shots while Njokuani threw and landed more. The Brazilian may have won the fight in the final 10 seconds when he landed an unbelievable spinning side kick. His right foot cracked Njokuani on the side of his face. It was amazing to see Njokuani still standing. Barboza must have been confident that he'd won the fight, because he backed away from the stunned Njokuani to celebrate as the clock ran out.

Behind nasty left hand, Cane crushes Marshall

Eliot Marshall was looking for a big return to the UFC, but he met the wrong guy, in Luis Cane, a motivated, nasty striker.

In the opening 30 seconds of the fight, Cane, a southpaw, landed some big straight lefts and hooks. Marshall hit the floor at the 3:45 mark of the first and couldn't get a hold of Cane. He never got back to his feet as Cane refused to stop throwing punches. After several requests to fight back from referee Dan Miragliotta went unanswered by Marshall, Cane was given the TKO finish at the 2:15 mark of the first round.

"I wanted this win so bad," Cane told UFC analyst Joe Rogan. "I came back to my gym, The Armory and we worked for eight months straight. That was the result."

Marshall (10-3, 3-2 UFC) was a late replacement for Karlos Vemola. After he was sent packing following a loss to Vladimir Matyushenko in a slow-paced fight at UFC on Versus 1, Marshall was hoping to make this a permanent return to the UFC.

Entering the fight, Cane (12-3, 4-3 UFC) had his back against the wall. The Brazilian striker had dropped two straight at UFC 106 and UFC 114. The combined time in those losses was just 4:09.

MMA Top 10 Light Heavyweights: Any Stopping Jon Jones?

by Michael David SmithThe Jon Jones Era, as you've surely heard, has begun: Jones is the new UFC light heavyweight champion, and everyone who follows MMA agrees that he's going to be the champion for a long, long time.

However, the light heavyweight division is so talented that it's been nearly impossible for anyone to hold the belt for long: Chuck Liddell lost it to Rampage Jackson, who lost it to Forrest Griffin, who lost it to Rashad Evans, who lost it to Lyoto Machida, who lost it to Shogun Rua, who lost it to Jones. We've had seven different champions in the last four years, so why is everyone so sure that Jones is going to hold onto the belt for so long?

The biggest reason, I think, is Jones' age. With the exception of Evans losing to Machida, every champion I mentioned above lost the belt to someone younger than him. But there aren't any contenders on the horizon younger than the 23-year-old Jones. Not only is Jones already the best, but he's going to keep getting better as the rest of the Top 10 light heavyweights in mixed martial arts get older.

So as I list the Top 10 light heavyweights below, I'll talk about how I'd like their chances against Jones -- even though I expect Jones to reign over all of them for a long time.
